The U.S. Secret Service announced on Tuesday that it had seized a network of illegal electronic devices deployed across the New York area, which had been used to threaten U.S. government officials and posed a serious national security risk. The operation resulted in the confiscation of over 300 SIM servers and 100,000 SIM cards, all located within a 56-kilometer radius of the United Nations General Assembly site in New York City.

According to a preliminary investigation by the agency’s Advanced Threat Interdiction Unit, the devices were not only used for sending anonymous threatening phone messages but also had the potential to be weaponized against the nation’s telecommunications infrastructure. Possible uses included disabling cell towers, launching denial-of-service (DoS) attacks, and serving as encrypted communication channels for terrorist groups and organized crime syndicates. Investigators also uncovered initial evidence suggesting communications between foreign terrorist threats and individuals already known to federal law enforcement agencies.

Reports from CNN and NBC News revealed that the network had transmitted assassination threats targeting senior U.S. officials. The investigation also led to the discovery of several “safe houses” rented in locations such as Armonk and Queens, New York. Sean Curran emphasized that the agency’s core mission is to prevent and neutralize emerging threats to protect high-profile individuals. He stressed that this operation demonstrates how any serious threat to protected persons will be investigated, tracked, and countered immediately.
