Google has officially confirmed that advertisements (Google Ads) will continue to be a core part of Search, even as the platform enters the era of full AI Search. With revenue from Search and YouTube ads reaching $56.57 billion USD in the latest quarter, it would be impossible for Google to abandon this business model. Executives emphasized that ads will not disappear – but the experience and the way ads are displayed will evolve to match the new technology landscape.
Currently, Google is pushing two main AI experiences in Search:
- AI Overviews — smart AI-generated summaries shown at the top of search results
- AI Mode — a conversational search mode similar to ChatGPT, focused on more personalized answers
One of the most notable changes is Google’s plan to integrate AI Mode with personal services such as Gmail and Google Drive, allowing the AI to access personal information and deliver a deeper, more tailored user experience. This clearly reflects the direction Google is heading.
Google executives explained that the future of ads will be different. AI will enable ads to be more useful and respond to complex, highly personalized search queries — rather than just short keywords. Examples include detailed restaurant recommendations (large group, food allergies, lighting preferences, reservation needed) or product searches from an image (e.g., “find shoes similar to these”).
Google has already started testing new ad formats inside AI Mode and is expected to reveal more details about the full plan next year.
