Coupang, South Korea’s largest e-commerce company, has disclosed a major data breach affecting more than 33.7 million user accounts. The leaked data includes customer names, phone numbers, email addresses, physical addresses, and purchase histories. The company detected suspicious activity on November 18, and further investigation revealed that the intrusion may have occurred as early as late June, originating from a server located outside the country.

Coupang has reported the incident to South Korea’s Personal Information Protection authorities and the National Police Agency to initiate an immediate investigation. The company stated that there is no evidence that sensitive information such as payment data, passwords, or account access credentials was exposed. However, security experts expressed concern over the months-long breach window, highlighting the need for improved capabilities in internal threat detection and rapid response.

Coupang said it has not observed any misuse of the leaked data so far and has begun notifying affected users directly via email and SMS. The company urged customers to remain vigilant against phishing attacks, which may leverage personal information to trick victims into surrendering account credentials or financial information.
