Venezuela’s state-owned oil company, Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA), disclosed that it experienced a cyberattack last week that affected certain systems related to export operations. The company stated, however, that the incident was limited to administrative systems and did not impact core operations or oil production processes. PDVSA emphasized that, thanks to the expertise of its internal personnel, the situation was brought under control quickly.

In an official statement, PDVSA explained that existing cybersecurity measures helped prevent any disruption to oil shipments or exports, and confirmed that operational areas were not affected. The Venezuelan government described the incident as an act of sabotage intended to undermine stability and potentially harm the country’s energy development.

According to reports from international media, PDVSA instructed employees to shut down computers, disconnect external devices, and disable network connections, including Wi-Fi and Starlink, as part of containment efforts. The company also strengthened on-site security measures. Some sources suggested that the incident may be related to a ransomware-style attack affecting internal management systems. While PDVSA maintains that oil production remains unaffected, the company is continuing its technical investigation and closely monitoring the situation.
