Nike has confirmed that it is investigating a potential cybersecurity incident after the cybercriminal group WorldLeaks claimed it had accessed and stolen data from the company’s systems. Nike stated that it has launched an investigation to assess the impact and verify the legitimacy of the claims, emphasizing that protecting consumer privacy and data security remains a top priority.

WorldLeaks added Nike to its Tor-based leak site on January 22, and on January 24 published approximately 1.4 terabytes of data, comprising more than 188,000 files. WorldLeaks is a data-extortion-focused cybercrime group that emerged after rebranding from Hunters International, a ransomware gang previously known for file-encryption attacks before shifting its strategy to data theft and public disclosure as leverage.

The incident comes amid a broader trend of cyberattacks targeting U.S. sportswear companies. Previously, Under Armour confirmed it was investigating a data exposure after more than 72 million customer records were reportedly leaked online, linked to a breach that occurred in November. At this time, Nike has not confirmed what specific data may have been affected and continues to assess the situation.
