Amazon has confirmed that three Amazon Web Services (AWS) data centers in the United Arab Emirates and one in Bahrain were damaged by drone attacks, causing widespread service disruptions affecting dozens of cloud services. The incident occurred amid escalating tensions in the Middle East and is believed to be linked to the broader regional conflict. The attacks directly impacted AWS infrastructure in the Middle East (UAE) and Middle East (Bahrain) regions, resulting in physical damage to critical infrastructure.

Amazon reported that two data centers in the UAE were directly struck, while in Bahrain a drone attack near a facility caused damage to surrounding infrastructure. The incident led to structural damage, power outages, and in some cases the activation of fire suppression systems, which caused additional water-related damage to equipment. According to the latest updates, some services remain disrupted-UAE facilities are experiencing significant operational impact, while Bahrain is facing localized power failures. Amazon is currently working to restore physical infrastructure while simultaneously implementing software-based recovery procedures to bring systems back online as quickly as possible. Priority has been given to restoring core services and tools that allow customers to back up data and migrate workloads away from affected regions.

Amazon has advised affected customers to activate their disaster recovery plans, including backing up data and relocating workloads to unaffected AWS regions such as those in the United States, Europe, or Asia-Pacific, depending on operational and regulatory requirements. Meanwhile, the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) in the United Kingdom has issued warnings about increased cyber risks linked to Iran amid the ongoing escalation of conflict in the region.
