Kodak has confirmed that it is working with external cybersecurity experts to investigate a data breach after attackers gained unauthorized access to a portion of the company’s data. Kodak, formally known as Eastman Kodak Company, was founded in 1880 and is headquartered in Rochester, New York. The company operates in the commercial printing, advanced materials, and chemical products sectors and holds approximately 79,000 patents worldwide. According to Kodak, unauthorized actors accessed certain company data, prompting the company to engage external specialists to determine what information may have been accessed or exfiltrated.
Kodak stated that the incident involved temporary unauthorized access to company data and that it responded promptly by initiating an investigation and coordinating with law enforcement authorities. The company also emphasized that it currently has no indication that the breach poses a threat to its systems or business operations. However, Kodak has not disclosed how the attackers gained access or whether its internal network was compromised during the incident.
While Kodak has not attributed the breach to any specific threat actor, the cybercriminal group ShinyHunters has claimed responsibility through its dark web leak site. The group alleges that it stole more than 2.2 million records containing customer personally identifiable information (PII) as well as internal corporate data. ShinyHunters has threatened to publish the stolen information unless contacted by June 18, 2026. The group has previously been linked to numerous high-profile cyberattacks involving organizations connected to Salesforce, Snowflake, and third-party integration providers. More recently, it also claimed responsibility for breaches affecting over 100 organizations allegedly linked to the exploitation of a zero-day vulnerability in Oracle PeopleSoft.
