Google has started rolling out a long-awaited feature that allows users to change their primary email address—specifically the part before “@gmail.com.” Previously, this portion of a Gmail address was permanently fixed, and users could only create aliases or secondary email addresses. The feature has initially been spotted among users in the United States, following earlier signs of testing since late 2025. This marks a significant change in Gmail’s long-standing policy, offering greater flexibility for users who wish to update their identity or adopt a more professional email address.

Users who have access to the feature can navigate to their Google Account settings, under the “Personal Info” section, and directly modify their username. Once confirmed, the new email address will be updated across all Google services, including Gmail, Google Photos, and Google Drive. From a security and privacy standpoint, Google has stated that the old email address will not be deleted or reassigned to other users. Instead, it will remain linked to the original account to prevent impersonation risks or delivery issues from contacts who may still use the old address.

The feature is currently being gradually rolled out, with a primary focus on users in the United States. There is no confirmed timeline yet for expansion to other regions, including Thailand. Users who do not yet see the option will need to wait for future updates from Google.
