OpenAI has announced a new round of system updates aimed at improving the performance of GPT-5.5 Instant while also preparing to retire several older AI models, including o3 and GPT-4.5. The changes will directly affect paid users currently relying on these models. According to the company, the transition is intended to optimize computing resources for newer, more capable models and further enhance the accuracy, responsiveness, and naturalness of AI-generated outputs.
OpenAI has upgraded GPT-5.5 Instant to deliver more accurate responses and a more human-like communication style. The update is designed to reduce unnecessarily long answers and excessive use of bullet points while improving overall readability and conversational quality. Regarding the retirement schedule, GPT-4.5 will be discontinued on June 27, with a 30-day transition period for users. The o3 model will follow on August 26, accompanied by a 90-day transition period. In addition, OpenAI has introduced new job-search and résumé-enhancement capabilities, integrating real-world job listings and freelance opportunities from partner platforms such as Indeed and Upwork, complete with ranking information and compensation details.
To minimize disruption, users and system administrators are encouraged to review their current workflows and begin planning migrations away from models scheduled for retirement, particularly GPT-4.5 and o3. Organizations that depend on these models for day-to-day operations should start evaluating GPT-5.5 and its advanced reasoning modes to ensure compatibility with existing prompts, workflows, and automation processes. Users are also encouraged to explore the newly introduced features to maximize productivity and reduce risks associated with upcoming platform changes and AI technology transitions.
