WestJet, the second-largest airline in Canada, has confirmed a cyberattack that disrupted access to its internal systems and applications. The incident caused service interruptions for some users, although the company emphasized that flight safety has not been affected.
In response, WestJet has activated its incident response team to investigate and mitigate the issue. The airline is also coordinating with law enforcement agencies and Transport Canada to minimize the impact, while working urgently to safeguard the security of its systems and protect the personal data of passengers and employees.
Although the technical details of the attack have not yet been disclosed, the incident highlights the growing trend of cyber threats targeting Canada’s critical infrastructure. Similar attacks have occurred recently, including incidents involving Nova Scotia Power and Emera in April 2025, as well as Air Canada and Suncor Energy, which experienced service and payment disruptions during 2023.
