The U.S. Department of Justice announced the seizure of nearly 400 website domains that were used to illegally livestream 2026 FIFA World Cup matches in violation of copyright laws. These websites provided real-time match streaming services without authorization and were identified as part of Operation Offsides, a coordinated effort involving multiple law enforcement agencies and private sector partners.
Reports indicate that the operation was coordinated through the International Computer Hacking and Intellectual Property (ICHIP) network and targeted servers and domains associated with the activity in several countries. The operation was supported by information from multiple copyright enforcement agencies and organizations, including FIFA, beIN Media Group, NBCUniversal, the Motion Picture Association’s Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment, UFC, and Warner Bros., to identify domains linked to unauthorized match streaming.
Authorities warned that illegal streaming websites not only violate copyright laws but may also expose users to malware, insecure connections, and the leakage of personal or financial information. Viewers should watch matches through authorized channels, avoid streaming links shared on social media or unknown websites, verify domain names before entering any information, and remain cautious of fake websites impersonating World Cup-related services, such as ticket sales, accommodation packages, or fraudulent streaming platforms.
