Interbank, a leading bank in Peru, has confirmed a major data breach after hackers infiltrated their systems and leaked customer data online. The bank reports that over 2 million customers were affected, and they have swiftly implemented enhanced security measures to protect customer data and transactions.
At the same time, multiple customers reported that the bank’s app and online platform were down both on the day of the incident and two weeks prior. Interbank has since restored most services, assuring customers of the security of their deposits and transactions.
According to Dark Web Informer, a hacker under the alias “kzoldyck” has posted an offer to sell customer information on a forum. The data allegedly includes details for over 3 million customers, such as full names, account numbers, birthdates, addresses, emails, credit card information, and transaction histories. Some login credentials were also exposed. The hacker claimed they attempted a ransom negotiation with Interbank two weeks ago, but it fell through when the bank refused to pay. Interbank has not yet provided further details on the breach.
