The U.S. Department of Justice (DoJ) has seized the PopeyeTools website, a dark web marketplace for selling stolen credit card data, and charged three administrators: Abdul Ghaffar, Abdul Sami, and Javed Mirza. They face charges of access device fraud and trafficking in data related to cybercrimes such as financial data theft and ransomware attacks.

PopeyeTools has operated on the dark web since 2016, specializing in the sale of credit card, debit card, and personally identifiable information (PII) used in fraud and other cybercriminal activities. The platform allegedly offered data from at least 227,000 individuals, generating over $1.7 million in revenue. Authorities also seized cryptocurrency valued at $283,000 from accounts linked to Sami and took control of the website domains www.PopeyeTools[.]co.uk and www.PopeyeTools[.]to, which were used to access the platform.

This action is part of the DoJ’s broader strategy to combat cybercrime by seizing websites and assets derived from illegal activities. If convicted, the defendants face a maximum prison sentence of 10 years per charge.
