German law enforcement authorities have successfully dismantled the relaunched version of the cybercrime marketplace known as “Crimenetwork,” only a few months after the original platform had previously been taken offline. The marketplace reportedly had more than 22,000 registered users and over 100 active vendors, highlighting how underground cybercrime platforms can rapidly resume operations once administrators rebuild their infrastructure.
According to German authorities, Crimenetwork was used as a hub for trading various illegal goods and services, including stolen personal data, narcotics, forged documents, cyberattack tools, and other illicit services. Transactions on the platform were conducted using cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Litecoin, and Monero to obscure financial trails and evade tracking efforts. Investigators estimate that the platform generated more than €3.6 million in revenue before being shut down.
During the latest operation, authorities arrested a 35-year-old German national suspected of acting as the platform administrator in Mallorca, Spain, and seized assets valued at approximately €194,000. Investigators also obtained substantial amounts of transaction records and user data, which will be analyzed to expand investigations into associated cybercriminal networks. German authorities stated that the operation demonstrates that although cybercrime marketplaces can quickly re-emerge after takedowns, continuous investigative pressure, asset seizures, and arrests remain critical factors in disrupting the long-term operation of such platforms.
