Google has released its November 2026 security update to address CVE-2026-58868, a Critical vulnerability affecting Android versions 14, 15, 16, 16 QPR2, and 17. The flaw resides in the Android Framework component and could potentially allow an attacker to achieve Remote Code Execution (RCE) without requiring additional privileges or any user interaction. At the time of disclosure, there was no confirmed evidence that the vulnerability had been exploited in the wild.

The vulnerability is caused by a heap-based buffer overflow in the onOutputReceived function within FrameDecoder.cpp, which can result in an Out-of-Bounds Write. An attacker could potentially exploit this memory corruption issue to cause abnormal system behavior or execute malicious code on an affected device. However, Google has not publicly disclosed details about the attack vector or the specific type of crafted input required to trigger the vulnerability.

Users and administrators should check affected Android devices and install the latest available security updates. CVE-2026-58868 is addressed in the November 1, 2026 security patch level or later. To receive all fixes included in the November security update, devices should be updated to the November 5, 2026 security patch level or later once the device manufacturer makes the update available. Users can verify their Android version and security patch level through the device settings, while organizations should monitor managed devices and identify systems that remain unpatched to reduce exposure to the vulnerability.
